about me

I went to my first yoga class in 2000 and I will never forget how laying in savasana at the end of the class I felt like my spirit had come home, how strongly I connected to what I didn’t even know I had been looking for. Yoga quickly became an important part of mylife from my first teacher Nina’s Iyengar classes in south London to Jenny Pretor-Pinney’s Iyengar/Astanga-mix classes at theYoga Place in Bethnal Green and then discovering Astanga Mysore-style self-practice with various fantastic teachers. Through the years the teachers have been many and to all of them I am grateful. I started teaching in 2005, in 2006 I completed The Life Centre Yoga Teacher Training Programme (now known as Yogacampus Yoga teacher Training Diploma) and I am a British Wheel of Yoga as well as Yoga Alliance 200hr registered teacher.

Since my first yoga class over a decade ago I have explored many different styles of yoga – the discipline and rigour of Ashtanga, the creativity and freedom of Vinyasa Flow, the energetics and philosophy of ParaYoga, more recently the grace and alignment of Anusara – and all these influences are reflected in my teaching. I am committed to studying with my main teacher Rod Stryker (founder of ParaYoga) on a yearly basis and feel blessed to have him as my guide and inspiration.

I teach a Hatha Flow style, combining flowing sequences linking movement and breath, with more yielding sequences, holding postures for longer to access a deeper meditative quality in the practice – finding stillness within movement and movement within stillness. The emphasis is on building strength as well as undoing and releasing tension; working on core muscles as well as increasing flexibility. The practice can be stronger and more dynamic or softer and more restorative, tailored to the needs of the group and individuals. In class I like to create a supportive and nurturing atmosphere, encouraging my students to turn inwards so they can really feel their way through the practice and make it their own.

I continue to grow and be inspired by my teachers as well as my students. I could never have dreamt of what yoga has given me in life, where the practice has taken me. It’s not that yoga makes difficulty or pain go away, but it gives you so many amazing tools to deal with life’s continuous challenges. It also gives you the space for self-reflection which in turn prepares the ground for deep healing and transformation. While my own yoga journey continues, it is with immense joy and a sense of deep privilege that I continue to assist others on theirs.

I have two children, born in 2006 and 2009, and I have experience teaching pregnancy yoga. I also feature in the Health Pregnancy Yoga with Tara Lee DVD.
